Marlins Make History with Sweep of Yankees

Just when it seemed like the Yankees’ difficult weekend couldn’t get any worse, the DJ at Marlins Park added insult to injury.

As Miami was about to finish off the Yankees in the ninth inning of Sunday’s game, the speakers blasted “Sweet Caroline.” Shortly after, the Marlins clinched a 7-3 victory, marking the first time in franchise history they swept the Yankees.

This playful jab highlighted the Yankees’ struggles, as they now find themselves 1½ games behind their rivals, the Red Sox, in the American League East standings. The Red Sox are currently riding a wave of young talent.

Videos of the moment quickly spread across social media, delighting Red Sox fans.

Fans React

“Yeah, I love the Marlins right now,” one Boston fan commented on X, sharing a laugh. Others echoed their enthusiasm, praising the moment as “the greatest thing I’ve ever heard.” Miami fans chimed in too, noting the excitement isn’t felt in the fanbase for over two decades.

After the game, the Marlins’ social media team embraced the theme by posting, “Sweep Caroline! ba ba baaa” on X.

A Weekend to Remember

This weekend, excitement filled Landepot Park, which opened in 2012, as fans gathered to watch the series. Over the three-game set, 101,545 fans attended, a significant turnout for the team.

During Sunday’s game, 34,601 fans witnessed the “Sweet Caroline” moment, blending the joy of Marlins supporters and the disappointment of Yankees fans.

The Marlins kicked off the series with a stunning 13-12 win on Friday, followed by a 2-0 victory on Saturday before sealing the sweep on Sunday. This win brought the Marlins to a .500 record at 55-55, keeping them in the hunt for a wildcard spot in the NL.
