The 2024 Olympics are opening, and early on in the first day of official competition will be a swimming event featuring one of the U.S. team’s brightest stars: Katie Ledecky.
Ledecky, a seven-time Olympic gold medalist, is competing in her fourth Olympics and will compete in four freestyle events this year.

The U.S. women’s swimming team will compete through Sunday, Aug. 4. The rivalry with the Australian swimming team in the pool will surely be the defining storyline of the meet. Additionally, Ledecky will likely face Summer McIntosh, 18, of Canada, who Ledecky lost to in the 800 meters in February, Ledecky’s first loss in 13 years.
