How Trump left Ukraine and Europe reeling – podcast | Ukraine

Last Monday, the Guardian's Central and Eastern European correspondent; Shawn Walker, I sat in Kiev and interviewed the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Walker explains that the conversation was dominated by what Zelensky wanted to achieve in his upcoming talks on the ceasefire contract in Ukraine. The president also outlined his red line. The United States must be involved in some way to ensure Ukraine's safety once the battle ceases. And that negotiations on its future must include Ukraine itself.

nevertheless Michael Sapphi Two days later, Donald Trump blew it all out of the water. The US president said he called Vladimir Putin directly and began talking about how the war in Ukraine would end.

If the announcement shocked leaders across Kiev and across Europe, what worse hadn't come yet – statements from Trump officials begin to question the very future of US support for European security , undermining the undermining alliances that existed nearly 80 years ago.

So, what's next for Ukraine? And if the US intends to withdraw its support for its allies in Europe, how will the continent protect itself in the future?
