How Yankees are handling Jasson Dominguez’s left field woes

Tampa – Jasson Domínguez's experiment on the left field doesn't go anywhere, even if the 22-year-old doesn't look that comfortable in that position yet.

“He doesn't play a lot of left field,” said Brian Cashman general manager before making another start Thursday with an 8-4 defeat to the Stein Brenner Field twins. “My impression [of him] He says he's going to get the reps he needs to secure that spot. ”

Cashman pointed out that Aaron Boone is “running him as much as possible” during spring training, and said Dominguez spent time at camp before Thursday's game defending Bernie Williams.

And in the second half of last season, when he first moved left in the majors, and both this spring, while Domínguez's results are mixed, Cashman isn't ready to call his way.

“Don't judge too much by any of these guys early in the camp,” Cashman said when asked about Dominguez's progress. “The past three weeks [of spring]you hone what is real and make decisions. ”

There are no indications that the Yankees are considering any alignment other than what they had when they attended spring training.

Domínguez was on Thursday for its seventh time, and after the game, Boone did not rule out a place to hit the regular season.

On defense, Dominguez made a great running catch with the left center gap, where he said he felt more comfortable, but the scouts remained skeptical of his overall game at this point.

Dominguez, who was hitless against Minnesota, is 23-4 with six strikeouts in the homer, walks and eight Grapefruitreug matches.

He played a total of 47 games on the left in 2023, splitting between Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre. He started 11 more times with SWB last season and 12 times with the Yankees in the second half of the season.

Cashman revealed that Domínguez will have more opportunities for the rest of the spring.

“There's a lane for him to take it and I hope he takes the opportunity,” Cashman said.

However, no roster decisions have been made, he added.

“We're doing this, we're going to see who's staying healthy and getting the spot,” GM said.
