Howard Rubin’s Controversial Dual Life

When he wasn’t allegedly involved in horrific acts within his supposed sex dungeon, Howard Rubin was reportedly dressing up in costumes inspired by the Disney movie “Frozen,” transforming his living room into a fun space for his grandchildren.

In a letter submitted to a federal judge in Brooklyn, Annalee Rubin, the daughter of the retired financier facing sex trafficking allegations, attempted to provide a different narrative. She painted her father as a “devoted and loving” grandfather, hoping to underscore his positive qualities.

Rubin, 70, is accused of taking women to his penthouse dungeon and subjecting them to torture. Annalee, who is seven months pregnant with her fourth child, wrote this heartfelt letter as part of her efforts to seek her father’s release from custody while he and his assistant, Jennifer Powers, await trial. However, her attempt didn’t succeed, and a judge ruled on Monday to keep Rubin detained, suggesting that even the steep $50 million bail might not suffice to ensure his return to court.

In her appeal, she highlighted that her father had turned their living room in Connecticut into a sort of gym-like play area for the children, complete with rolling mats and a ball pit. “He brings so much joy to his grandchildren,” she mentioned. “He even dresses up as a character from ‘Frozen’ just to make them smile.”

Alongside her letter, Annalee included several family photos depicting joyful moments with Rubin and his grandchildren. Some snapshots showed him on the beach with one of the girls, another captured him on a plane playing with a toddler, and others featured him smiling with his children.

Writing on October 3 and later made public, she noted how Rubin regularly assists her and her partner, taking care of their children after school and helping with everyday tasks like meals and bedtimes. She described him as an essential figure of love, stability, and support for their family.

This letter coincided with a plea from Rubin’s estranged wife, Mary Henry, who also requested his temporary release as they navigate their divorce. However, prosecutors countered that, despite his familial connections, Rubin poses a risk to the community and could potentially escape rather than face his trial.

Rubin faces serious allegations related to disturbing sexual crimes committed between 2009 and 2019 and has pleaded not guilty to various charges, including bank fraud.
