Howard University Cuts Ties with Diddy, Revokes Honorary Degree

“Mr. Combs’ behavior, as captured on the recently released video, is fundamentally incompatible with the core values ​​and beliefs of Howard University, and he is no longer deemed worthy of receiving the university’s highest honors,” the school’s board of trustees said in a statement.

According to the statement, the board of trustees unanimously approved Friday the return of Combs’ honorary degree, which he received in 2014. “With this approval, all honors and privileges associated with the degree are revoked. The board also directed university administrators to sever financial ties with Combs, including returning $1 million in donations, ending scholarship programs and terminating a 2023 giving agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation.

The Associated Press sent an email seeking comment to a spokesman for Combs on Saturday.

Combs was hospitalized last month. He confessed to punching his ex-girlfriend, Kathy, in a hotel hallway after CNN published a video of the assault in 2016. In a video statement posted to social media, he said he was “deeply sorry” and that his actions were “unacceptable.”

“I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I was disgusted then and I still am disgusted today,” Combs said.
