Hugh Jackman made an unexpected appearance at a memorial service this week for Corporal Blake Reynolds, an Indiana sheriff’s deputy who tragically lost his life while assisting a disabled motorist.
On Friday, the “Wolverine” actor was seen at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department in Muncie, Indiana, where a tribute to Corporal Reynolds has been set up.
Jackman conversed with attendees at the memorial, which featured a sheriff’s vehicle adorned with flowers, flags, and even guitars, as noted in a photo posted by Rick Snyder, who leads the Indiana Fraternal Order of Police.
Snyder acknowledged Jackman’s presence on social media, stating, “We honor world-renowned actor and producer Hugh Jackman for visiting the Delaware County Veteran Corporal Blake Reynolds Memorial.” He further remarked, “Sacrifice impacts everyone’s spirit,” emphasizing the importance of community support during such times.
Corporal Reynolds, just 31 years old, lost his life in a tragic accident on Interstate 69 early Wednesday morning.
He had been assisting the driver of a disabled semi-truck when a tractor-trailer collided with his patrol car, resulting in a chain reaction that included injuries to Reynolds himself.
Rushed to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries there.
Before his career at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Reynolds pursued criminal justice studies at Ball State University and served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He leaves behind his wife Allison, along with family and friends.
His obituary reflects on his dedication, stating, “From day one, Blake knew law enforcement was not just a job; it was a calling.” He was known for his courage, compassion for others, and a genuine commitment to his community.
Remembered as a “loyal, goofy, faithful Christian,” his family shared how he enjoyed simple pleasures, like spending time with his cat Nightwing, listening to music, and quoting Star Wars.
A public service to honor Reynolds is scheduled for November 22 in Muncie.
Interestingly, Jackman frequently visits Muncie, partly due to his girlfriend Sutton Foster, a Tony Award-winning actress who teaches theater at Ball State University.
During his visit, Jackman also stopped by City Hall in Muncie, approximately 90 miles from Indianapolis. The mayor, Dan Ridenour, shared on social media about the visit and expressed gratitude for the actor’s genuine concern and energetic demeanor.
Jackman was welcomed warmly by the mayor and city staff, enjoying a tour of City Hall and posing for photos with the team.
