Huma Abedin, a longtime aide to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Alex Soros, the son of progressive billionaire George Soros, have become engaged. The couple announced They said in a joint Instagram post on Wednesday.
“[T]”This has happened… we couldn’t be happier, more grateful and more in love,” the younger Soros said. I wrote in the postfollowed by heart, heart eyes and diamond ring emojis.
The post included a photo of a man believed to be Soros kneeling in front of Abedin.
Alex Soros is chairman of the Open Society Foundations, which his father founded and once ran. Soros has long been a central figure in right-wing conspiracy theories and has faced accusations, most recently from Congresswoman Nancy Mace, R-Lausanne, that he has provided funding to groups involved in pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses.
Abedin began her career in Washington as an intern in the White House Office of the First Lady, and later worked with Clinton in the Senate, the State Department and on the campaign trail.
Abedin was previously married to former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-New York) and stood by him throughout his numerous scandals, but filed for divorce after the FBI discovered her emails on Weiner’s laptop, which led then-FBI Director James Comey to reopen the Clinton email investigation just before the 2020 presidential election.
