A collection of skeletal remains found in Queens on Monday is thought to be those of a nurse who went missing in 2021, according to his heartbroken wife.
Richard “Max” Albright, a 69-year-old nurse at a specialized hospital, was last seen leaving his home in Jackson Heights on October 14, 2021.
His wife, Kathy Albright, shared that police informed her the remains discovered near the College Point strip mall are closely connected to her husband.
“I’m in shock, but there’s a sense of relief too. The hardest part was the uncertainty. It’s been almost four years,” she remarked.
The NYPD and medical examiners haven’t officially identified the remains yet; they stated the investigation is ongoing.
Despite this, Kathy is hopeful that this painful, unresolved chapter will soon have closure.
“I always knew he had passed, but it’s having his body and finding out what really happened that I wish for,” she stated.
Kathy mentioned that authorities located a wallet near the remains belonging to Richard.
She believes there was no foul play involved, suggesting he may have suffered a medical issue after leaving the house.
Richard had been taking blood thinners following three open-heart surgeries shortly before he disappeared, Kathy explained.
On the day he last left home, he had complained about leg pain and was wearing slide slippers.
Kathy did everything she could think of to locate her husband, from getting a 30-day Metro card to hiring a private investigator who discovered Richard had taken a public bus on the day he went missing.
The couple had a happy marriage for 23 years.
They initially met while working for a Texas newspaper before relocating to New York City. After the move, Richard transitioned into nursing and held a position at the specialized hospital for 16 years.
When he disappeared, Richard was reportedly wearing khaki pants, a red shirt, and slippers.
