Colorado State Police Released strange new information This relates to the grotesque discovery of a human head and hand in a freezer after the house was sold to a new owner.
The head and hands belonged to a 16-year-old who was last seen alive in 2005 but was not reported missing, according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.
In January, police were called to a Grand Junction home after the new owners claimed to have found human remains in the freezer while cleaning out their new home. The incident is being investigated as a homicide, and police were trying to identify the owner of the parts.
On Friday, police announced that the coroner had determined the parts belonged to Amanda Leariel Overstreet, who was 16 years old when she went missing in 2005.
Overstreet was not reported missing and was the biological daughter of the home's previous owner, the sheriff's office said. He did not say whether a suspect in the incident had been identified as the investigation is still ongoing.
The rest of the boy's body has not yet been found, police said.
“The Mesa County Sheriff's Office would like to emphasize that the home that was the center of the Pinyon Street Murder investigation is now under new ownership and has no connection to the previous incident.” added. “This home was purchased, completely renovated and sold to the current owners. We respect the privacy of the current owners and their neighbors and ask that you do not drive by or take photos of the home. Please.”
A neighbor who lives near the house told KUSA-TV in January that a witness came to use the bathroom and said a body had fallen out of a black plastic bag inside the freezer. The body was covered in frozen meat.
A neighbor also told KUSA that the previous owner of the house was a man who was caring for his elderly mother.
Video in the original report showed officers in protective gear examining the body.
