Violence Erupts During Fête de la Musique in France

Overnight, hundreds were arrested at the Fête de la Musique, a cultural music festival held nationwide in France. Disturbingly, there were reports of stabbings, sexual assaults, and incidents where women were allegedly injected with date rape drugs.

This annual event, which showcases world music, jazz, and various artists, witnessed scenes of violence once more. As reported by Le Parisien, at least 148 individuals were arrested in Paris alone by Monday morning, with a total of 243 arrests made across the country during the festival, according to the Interior Ministry.

In response to the situation, approximately 5,000 police and military personnel were deployed, along with support from 2,500 firefighters.

In a particularly alarming development, a man is currently fighting for his life after a violent altercation at a festival in Nice. Authorities arrested a 41-year-old man suspected of assault who was found with a deadly weapon in his possession.

Additionally, in the Seine-Saint-Denis suburb of Paris, a 48-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicions of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl during a concert. Reports also emerged of a 15-year-old girl alleging she was raped near the festival grounds in Nogent-sur-Marne, another suburb of Paris.

The festival also saw troubling reports of “evening bites” where individuals were covertly stabbed with syringes containing date rape drugs. Le Parisien noted that numerous women reported such incidents.

While often linked to sexual assault at music venues and nightclubs, this act has also been associated with other crimes, including theft. For instance, a victim reported being stabbed by a man who had a syringe on his belt near Place de la République.

In another case, a woman was injected with a substance in the 9th arrondissement and subsequently raped at a private location in Paris around 9:30 PM on Sunday, leading to the arrest of a suspect.

It’s worth noting that last year, 145 individuals reported being stabbed at music festival events across France.
