Hunter Biden Critiques Merrick Garland’s Appointment

On Sunday, Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, shared his views on the “I’ve Had It” podcast. He expressed that appointing Merrick Garland as U.S. Attorney General was the “biggest mistake” made during his father’s administration.

During the discussion, host Jennifer Welch addressed Hunter Biden’s thoughts on Garland and the Justice Department. She criticized their failure to indict former President Donald Trump while pursuing charges against Hunter Biden himself. Welch described this as a “capitulation by Democrats” to Republican pressures that led to Garland’s initial appointment.

In response, Hunter Biden stated, “My view is this… to distance myself from personal feelings, the single biggest mistake of my father’s administration was Merrick Garland’s leadership.”

He continued by asserting that the current situation stemmed from Garland’s decisions. He emphasized that blame toward his father needed to stop, noting, “He’s the president; he elected him.” Hunter Biden further remarked on the expectations placed on his father regarding the independence of the Justice Department, recalling a precedent that has been upheld since Nixon’s presidency.

Hunter Biden expressed disappointment over Garland not prosecuting Trump for his involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot, calling it a “planned conspiracy” viewed as an effort to undermine the 2020 election.

He pointedly asked Welch, “Didn’t you see what I saw? People storming the Capitol, attacking police, and running Congress members out of the building?” He argued that the lack of action against Trump spoke volumes about Garland’s and the Department’s priorities.

Both Welch and Hunter Biden characterized Garland as a “moderate” choice made to appeal to Republicans. Welch added that Garland’s appointment seemed like a favor owed to those who had previously supported him, suggesting that it was necessary for an image of bipartisanship.

“Obama picked this milquetoast candidate… Your dad was a decent man who wanted to act on honest principles,” she said, critiquing the motivations behind Garland’s selection.

Ultimately, Hunter Biden reflected on his legal troubles, mentioning he had been under investigation since 2018, during Trump’s presidency. However, he received a pardon from his father for crimes he may have committed, which had occurred during his earlier years before President Biden’s term concluded.
