All three of Hunter Biden’s adult children are believed to have boarded Air Force One with President Biden for a three-day trip to southern Italy to attend the annual G7 summit, the day after their father was convicted of a felony federal firearms offense.
His first granddaughters, Naomi Biden, Finnegan Biden and Maisie Biden, as well as Naomi’s husband Peter Neal, reportedly accompanied the 81-year-old president on his visit to Puglia, an area that has become increasingly popular among tourists for its unique local cuisine, beaches and historic architecture.
At least two of the granddaughters have been spotted on the trip so far, but it remains unclear who was on the trip as the first family members did not disembark from the plane shortly after arriving in Italy on Wednesday night.
The Daily Mail later report All of Hunter’s adult children were on board, but White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was notable for denying that when asked by the Biden family who else was accompanying the president during the trip.
While Biden’s family gathered at the president’s Wilmington, Delaware, home on Tuesday night, hours after Hunter’s conviction, Finnegan, 23, was the only one to board Air Force One in front of reporters at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington on Wednesday morning.
First lady Jill Biden did not join the Italy trip after representing the first family in court at Hunter, 54,’s Delaware trial, where he was charged with illegally purchasing and possessing guns while high on crack cocaine.
The White House did not dispute the reported list of relatives or provide additional comment, including about who would pay for expenses associated with the entourage.
The president can invite guests of his choosing aboard Air Force One, often including family members and political allies, but doing so can sometimes be controversial.
The White House claimed it provided taxpayer reimbursements last year after Hunter Biden and his aunt, Valerie Biden Owens, accompanied President Biden on a three-day visit to Ireland that was primarily a tour of ancestral lands.
But the actual amount of the refunds can be hard to track, and a standard calculation (the price of a commercial first-class ticket) could result in a refund below the actual cost of operating Air Force One.
The oldest son was convicted Tuesday of three felony counts related to illegal firearms possession after abandoning a plea deal for probation only on tax and firearms charges last July in favor of a blanket immunity for past misconduct, including alleged violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act — violations that may have involved the oldest son’s father, who was frequently involved in overseas transactions.
Hunter Biden is scheduled to go on trial for a second time in federal court in Los Angeles on September 5 for failing to pay $1.4 million in federal taxes between 2016 and 2019, but a sentencing date has not yet been set.
