Caitlyn Clark and Sophie Cunningham drew attention even though they missed the first round of the film’s dream game 3.
After a surprising 87-85 win on Thursday, Clark and other Indiana players celebrated the victory by holding up the “W” sign as they left Gateway Center Court.
Both Clark (groin) and Cunningham (right knee) are out for the season.
Indiana walked off the court feeling proud, urging Clark and others to turn back and flash their “W” signs for the fans.
As the fourth quarter ticked down, with just four minutes left, Cunningham stood near the midcourt line following a foul on Alisha Gray.
Cunningham shared a photo of her experience on social media, captioning it “This is some aura.”
After hiring Stephanie White as head coach, the Fever had hoped to be title contenders this season. Instead, they’ve struggled, losing five players to injuries that ended their seasons.
This unfortunate list includes star player Clark, who sustained injuries to both her groin and left quad, leading to her earlier exit this month.
Despite the setbacks, Sims scored 16 points and assisted Aliya Boston for the game-winning basket on Thursday.
Kelsey Mitchell’s 24-point performance added an element of surprise to the WNBA playoff picture, especially since Clark and Cunningham were sidelined.
White commented after the game, highlighting the team’s resilience, adaptability, and the selflessness that helps everyone perform at their best. “These moments add up to 12-15 points,” she noted, emphasizing grit and determination in their success.
The Fever is set to face an ace in their first semi-finals appearance since 2015.
