An infuriated husband shot and killed his longtime wife, and pointed the gun at her in a clear murder suicide on Long Island Thursday morning, police said.
Officers found 73-year-old William Clifford lying under his feet at about 6:30am, with a bullet wound in the grass head in front of him.
A while ago, a CPR trained garbage truck driver found him, saying, “I looked into his body and decided he was beyond help. [and] Kevin Baylor, a detective with the Suffolk County Police Murder Squad detective, told reporters.
In a four-bedroom home in Parsons Landing and St. Marks Lane, officers find his wife, Irene Clifford, 68, dead in a pool of blood.
Beyrer said the fateful couple had been married “for years” and “the neighbors described them as very good.”
Nearby residents were surprised to see a swarm of police officers in the sleepy, lined up neighborhood.

“I'm shocked and surprised that nothing happens here,” a neighbor told News 12 Long Island.
“It's a very quiet, sleepy little town where nothing happens.”
