State officials said northbound lanes of Interstate 95 have reopened after being closed over the weekend for park construction near Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia, but southbound lanes will reopen in the coming weeks. It warns that lane closures may be necessary.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that the northbound lanes between Columbus Boulevard and Interstate 676, which were closed Saturday night, reopened early Monday, ahead of schedule.

A second weekend closure of the northbound lanes was planned, but officials said it was not necessary. PennDOT said weekend closures of southbound lanes of Interstate 95 are planned in the coming months. The closures are being coordinated with neighboring states of New Jersey and Delaware, as well as cities, sports complexes and transit agencies.

The new 11.5-acre park adjacent to the Delaware River will include gardens, playgrounds, pavilions, and “contemplative settings for Irish and Scottish monuments.”
