Trump Comments on Prince Andrew’s Arrest
President Donald Trump expressed his condolences for the British royal family in light of the arrest of former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who is facing scrutiny due to connections with the late Jeffrey Epstein. Trump described the situation as “a shame” and “very sad.”
This remark came during a press interaction aboard Air Force One after a Board of Peace meeting on Thursday.
“I think it’s a shame,” he stated. “I think it’s very sad. I think it’s so bad for the royal family.”
Trump went on to commend Andrew’s elder brother, King Charles III, highlighting the upcoming visit of the “fantastic man” to the U.S. for the Semiquincentennial celebration this spring.
In light of the investigation, King Charles had issued a statement affirming his family’s intent to cooperate with law enforcement, underscoring that “the law must take its course.” He had also previously stripped Andrew of his titles, including “his royal highness” and “Duke of York.”
In a rather self-referential note, Trump mentioned his own experiences with the law, asserting that he is knowledgeable about the consequences of associating with figures like Epstein and claiming he was “totally exonerated” in connection with the DOJ’s release of relevant documents.
“I’m the one that can talk about it because I’ve been totally exonerated. I did nothing,” Trump remarked, also adding, “In fact, the opposite — he was against me.”
Andrew was taken into custody at Sandringham House following an investigation related to alleged misconduct in public office for sharing classified documents with Epstein. He had recently moved back to this estate after being evicted from Windsor. Photographs of him leaving the police station surfaced, yet the inquiry remains active.
Virginia Giuffre, one of the individuals who accused Epstein and Andrew of wrongdoing, detailed in her memoir how Epstein, along with Ghislaine Maxwell, allegedly trafficked her to Prince Andrew, leading to her sexual abuse during her teenage years. The former prince, however, continues to deny these allegations.
