NIH Director Discusses Vaccine Mandate on NewsMax TV

During a segment on NewsMax TV’s “Rob Schmitt Tonight,” Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, the NIH director, shared his thoughts on the concept of a vaccine mandate. He noted that Florida is not speaking for the administration, but suggested there could be a “better approach” that utilizes a power of attorney.

Bhattacharya remarked, “I’m not entirely sure. The administration hasn’t fully considered this yet, but when you look at the UK and Denmark, they do not impose vaccine requirements. Instead, there’s a strong emphasis on the idea that vaccinations are voluntary. In these regions, public health strategies have not infringed on individuals’ autonomy, allowing for greater trust from the public.” He reflected that the strategies employed abroad may differ significantly from those in the U.S.

He added, “In those places, they engage with people rather than forcing compliance. This reasoning approach is quite compelling. While I haven’t formally presented this within the administration, I’m merely sharing my perspective as a scientist and epidemiologist to aid in making informed choices for families.”

On the topic of the MMR vaccine, Bhattacharya stated, “Considering the scientific evidence and the risk-benefit ratio, over 90% of parents who have their children vaccinated choose to do so.”
