I Can’t Determine What Being ‘Fit’ Means, But Biden’s ‘Fit Now’

On Friday’s “CNN Newsnight” broadcast, Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-N.Y.) said President Joe Biden is “currently in good health,” but that he’s “not in a position to judge” what “good health” actually means, and that he needs to hear from a doctor or the president himself that he is not.

Espaillat said Biden was “the right choice” when he won the Democratic nomination and “I still feel he’s the right choice. But if he decides not to win the nomination, I would support another candidate, the Democratic candidate.”

He added: “I’m a supporter of the president and I believe we should support him unless he is found unfit to run for office.”

Presenter Abbie Phillip then asked, “When you say he’s not feeling well, what does that mean? When you say you’re feeling well, that means different things to other people, but what does it mean to you?”

Espaillat responded, “Well, I’m not in a position to judge what it is. I’m sure a doctor or somebody can tell you that.”

Then Phillip interjected and asked, “What if the doctor says he has some kind of illness?”

“If the president says so, but he hasn’t said so far,” Espaillat replied.
