U.S. Olympian Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone won the 400-meter hurdles on Thursday and afterward attributed the achievement to God.
McLaughlin-Levrone won the gold medal for the second year in a row. Posts She broke her own record by setting a new world record of 50.37, making her the only woman to win consecutive Olympic gold medals. USA Today Reported.
After her big win, McLaughlin-Levrone said, “This is a blessing. I’m grateful for another opportunity and to have made it through healthy and safe. There were high expectations coming into this race.”
But she also thanked God.
“Everything I do is because of God. No matter what happens, God will be praised. Every time I step on the track, I pray, ‘May I be a vessel of Your glory’… that’s why I do what I do,” she added.

McLaughlin-Levrone won by a large margin in a time of 50.37 seconds. Anna Cockrell was the next closest, coming in second in a personal best of 51.87 seconds. Femke Boll of the Netherlands came third in 52.15 seconds.
Femke Boll praised McLaughlin-Levrone’s achievement.
“Sydney really raised the bar. When I was still running 52s, she was running 50s. I think it made me realize that there’s more I can do,” Boll said. “And again today she proved that she can perform well in the most important moments of an Olympic final. … It’s just amazing to be a part of this.”
“We’ve come this far and I have to thank the ladies beside me for their help. This event wasn’t that popular and we quickly made it a favorite. I think 49 seconds is possible, I think the talented athletes sitting in front of you can do it,” McLaughlin-Levrone explained. “I think we’re all encouraging each other to get better, to improve and to find ways to improve times that we didn’t think were possible for a long time. I don’t know when it’s going to be possible, but I think it’s out there somewhere.”
