Who let the dogs out?

In northern Texas, numerous packs of stray dogs are becoming increasingly bold, raising concerns about the safety of children in the area.

Residents in Godley are alarmed as these strays no longer limit their presence to the night; they’re now roaming freely during the day.

“We’ve got a wild dog here that’s clearly sick and struggling to find food,” a local resident remarked. “Dogs instinctively seek out food. I definitely don’t want my kids to be at risk,” he added.

Video footage captures these dogs wandering the streets, illustrating a problem that has been growing over the past few months. What used to be an unusual sight has now become a common—and alarming—occurrence.

This resident expressed how a once-odd phenomenon has transformed into a significant safety concern, with the pack reportedly reaching as many as 40 dogs. A recent incident left a family feeling unsettled.

“We let the kids out of the car, and suddenly we hear barking. We rushed back inside only to see the dogs running around,” they recounted.

In a moment of panic, the wife hurried their daughter indoors while the son stayed in their vehicle, prompting the dad to get his firearm from the house. He also mentioned he hopes it doesn’t come to that but feels he must be prepared.

Neighbors are uncertain about the origins of these dogs, yet many share worries not just about their behavior but also the fact that many appear to be malnourished and unhealthy.

Rick Bailey, a Johnson County Commissioner, noted that abandoned animals are increasingly becoming a problem. However, he pointed out that the county lacks the legal power to gather these dogs. Even if they could, the shelters are already filled to capacity, leaving little recourse for the animals.

“That’s definitely a big concern,” he commented. “But there isn’t a straightforward solution except for collaborating with other cities in the area to address this issue.”

Later this week, the Godley City Council will review a proposal aimed at introducing stricter penalties for those who abandon animals.
