Todd Chrisley Reflects on Life After Lockup

Todd Chrisley shared insights about his initial night behind bars, mentioning that he was filled with frustration and yelled out for sleep once the reality of his situation set in.

In a recent special titled “The Chrisleys: Life After Lockup” aired by ABC News Studios, Todd recounted his time at FPC Pensacola before receiving a pardon from former President Donald Trump.

During the interview, host Juju Chang asked him, “Todd, take us behind the bar with you. How was that first night?”

“I was mad at God,” Todd, 57, expressed. “Then, when I finally went to sleep, in the darkness, I found myself crying out, ‘God, why are you allowing this to happen?’”

He further explained, “You don’t really grasp how significant your freedoms are until they’re gone. Things like going to church or simply being able to eat out—all that is taken from you. So when you get it back, it feels like a blessing.”

When asked what she missed most during her imprisonment, Julie, 52, replied, “My kids and my husband. I missed birthdays, holidays, graduations—it was hard not being there.”

“Now, I need to concentrate on what lies ahead,” she added, looking forward to the future.

Todd was released from FPC Pensacola last month after serving more than 12 years for tax evasion and fraud. Meanwhile, Julie was freed from FMC Lexington, Kentucky, where she served a seven-year sentence.

He had originally reported to prison in 2023 after being convicted of financial fraud and tax evasion. Prosecutors found that they had fraudulently secured loans exceeding $30 million and subsequently declared bankruptcy.

In a reflective moment during the interview, Todd stated, “You don’t realize the value of your freedom until it’s taken away.”

“If that experience doesn’t change you, I don’t think you’re human,” he added.

The special, “The Chrisleys: Life After Lockup,” is available on Hulu and Disney+.
