President Joe Biden said during an interview with NBC News on Monday that he has not said anything to incite mentally unstable people, but “my opponent has said things that do,” and added, “How can you talk about real threats to democracy when the president is saying things like this? Are you going to say nothing because you might incite somebody?”
“NBC Nightly News” host Lester Holt asked, “But have you ever taken a step back and reflected for a moment on the comments you made that may have galvanized people who are not balanced?”
Biden responded: “Well, I mean, how do you talk about threats to democracy when a president says things like this? Do you say nothing because you might incite somebody? I don’t engage in that kind of rhetoric. My opponent is engaging in that kind of rhetoric right now. He’s talking about how there will be a bloodbath if he loses, and he’s saying he’ll pardon, actually suspend the sentences of, everybody who’s been arrested and sentenced to prison for what happened at the Capitol. I mean, remember that photo of Donald Trump when he hit Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) husband with a hammer? I’m not kidding.”
