‘I Just Stood There Mesmerized:’ Credible Witnesses Share Mystery Drone Experiences

Local governments and residents are demanding answers after a spate of mysterious drone sightings along the East Coast, even as federal agencies insist the incidents pose no threat to public safety or national security.

BBC News report Reports of unidentified drones flying near critical infrastructure, military bases and populated areas have increased sharply in several East Coast states in recent months. The sightings, which began in mid-November, have sparked concern and frustration among residents and local governments who feel federal agencies are not providing enough transparency or answers regarding the origin and purpose of these aircraft. There is.

A particularly striking incident occurred on December 8th in New Jersey. Officers saw around 50 drones “about the size of cars” flying in unusual patterns over the ocean and rapidly approaching the coast. Sheriff Michael Mastronardi, who arrived on the scene shortly afterward, expressed disappointment with the federal government's response, saying: we go ”

Witnesses shared their experiences with the mysterious drone. Dennis Howitt, a security guard at Adventure Pier in Wildwood, New Jersey, said he saw “a cluster of white lights” high in the night sky. “I just stood there fascinated,” Howitt said. “It was strange because it was very still and yet moving slightly at the same time.”

Louie Birch, a high school teacher who also lives in Wildwood, saw the same or similar light. He said six to eight lights would sometimes “disappear and appear in a completely different part of the sky.” According to Birch, the mysterious light moved in a pattern that “defies physics.”

Other local residents have also reported strange drone activity. Noel Thomas, who lives in Edison, New Jersey, saw a triangular-shaped drone with flashing lights over a nearby power plant. Similarly, Evan Cutler of Montclair, New Jersey, described seeing a rectangular object “about the size of a school bus” with flashing lights and flying at an unusually low altitude.

The lack of a clear explanation has created an information vacuum, leading to widespread speculation and conspiracy theories among the public. Local leaders, including a group of New Jersey's 21 mayors, sent a letter to state officials demanding a full investigation into the drone sightings. In a meeting with federal agencies, mayors were told that the military or tech companies were not responsible for the drones, but officials insisted they had no idea who was behind it.

Despite the growing concerns, U.S. officials have stressed that they do not believe drones pose a risk to public or national security. U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) has reported more than 600 similar intrusions into restricted airspace since 2022, suggesting the current wave of sightings is not an entirely new phenomenon. Officials also point to recent changes in federal law that allow more drones to fly at night.
