I Mock the Left More After Oct. 7 Hamas Attacks, ‘They’re Dumber Than They Used to Be’

HBO real time Host Bill Maher has said that he now pokes fun at leftists more than he used to, especially since the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel, because “they’re dumber than they used to be.”

“One of the problems I have with the left is that they’re so ignorant. I mean, people always say to me, ‘You’re making the left dumber than you used to be,’ and yes, because they’re dumber than they used to be,” Maher told journalist Tina Brown at the Aspen Ideas Festival.

“And the right wing has gotten stupid, too,” Maher continued, adding, “If I were to look for a reason why I thought it was right to do this, it’s what’s happened since October 7th. I mean, people are demonstrating for Hamas? For Hamas? That’s like cheering for the planes on 9/11.”

The comedian then turned to the audience and said, “I was just kidding! Come on, white people, take it easy!”

“By the way, speaking of crowd diversity, Aspen did a really great job with this damn KKK rally in town,” Maher joked.

Asked which party he thought was “more dangerous,” Maher replied, “Definitely the Republicans,” to applause from the audience.

“We don’t need to make it a rally,” Maher told the crowd, repeating an earlier assertion about the left.

“If you say, ‘I’m making fun of the left,’ you’re right, because they’ve gotten crazier,” Maher said. “Five years ago, no one was demonstrating for Hamas or anything like that.”

Maher added that mocking the left doesn’t make him a “Republican.”

“The left is getting crazier and blaming me for realizing it,” he said. “Even if I realize how counterproductive it is to make everything identity politics, that doesn’t make me a Republican, it just makes me an honest broker.”

“If I find myself guilty of hypersensitivity, cancel culture, victim culture, meaningless white self-hatred, and, you know, forcing complex ideas about race and gender onto kids who can’t even spell yet, that doesn’t make me a Republican,” Maher argued.

of real time The host went on to say that he would “never be a Republican” because he believes Republicans are “too religious,” “fiscally hypocritical,” “in denial of racism” and “believe climate change is a hoax and weather forecasters have boobs.”

“And they always blame the less fortunate when they should be blaming the less fortunate,” Maher added, to another round of applause from the audience.

The comedian then turned to the audience at the Aspen Ideas Festival and joked, “Big applause from the privileged. I love that.”

Maher added that he believes Republicans are the “greater threat” but that he’s “not going to shut up about anybody.”

“You can label me however you want, if you do something stupid I’m gonna call you out no matter what class you’re in,” he continued. “I speak for a different group of people, I call them ‘normals’ – regular people who just want to get back to normal.”

“If you do something stupid or say something stupid, I’m going to call you out,” Maher added. “I speak for Democrats, Independents and non-drooling Republicans. That’s my base.”
