Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) expressed his desire to avoid any tax increases during an appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” this Friday.
He acknowledged that even minor tax raises for wealthier individuals could complicate the support for low-income workers. Thune emphasized, “They do it!!!” while referencing more radical approaches from the left.
Host Joe Carnen commented that while the president aims to assist working-class Americans, there are concerns around tariffs and potential redistribution of tax burdens.
Thune reiterated, “I don’t want to see anyone’s taxes go up. We’re focused on cutting taxes, not raising them.” He described the president as non-traditional, suggesting that voters are not inclined toward conventional leadership, which is reflected in his policies.
He added that those close to the president seem to grasp his goals, particularly in addressing the needs of working Americans as seen in his proposals.
