Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he supports Americans having access to the abortion drug mifepristone.
“Let’s move on to the next question. I want to talk about the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank in Washington that is shaping the policies we want for the Trump administration’s second term,” moderator Kristen Welker said.
Vance said, “The Heritage Foundation does a lot of good work. There’s a lot I don’t agree with, but there’s a lot I do agree with. They’re involved in public policy and it’s an important part of how D.C. functions and operates. We continue to have dialogue with many think tanks, right and left, as we shape public policy. This is how the city operates. Again, I’m not going to be a spokesman for the Heritage Foundation. I’m not affiliated with them in any way.”
“Some of the things they’re asking for include revoking approval of the abortion drug mifepristone, and yet Donald Trump has actually said he supports access to that drug,” Welker said. “Do you support access to abortion pills, as does Donald Trump?”
“Kristen, you asked about Project 2025, and I want to be clear here: Trump has made it clear that his transition team will be running the transition and running the Trump administration. Again, there are a lot of organizations, some of them good ideas, some of them bad ideas and some of them both,” Vance said.
He added, “On the issue of the abortion pill, what many of us are saying is that the Supreme Court has ruled that the pill should be available to the American people. Donald Trump supports that view. I support that view.”
“Just to be sure, would you support the availability of mifepristone?” Welker said.
Vance replied, “Yes, Kristen.”
