Sen. Mark Kelly (R-Ariz.) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he supports repealing the filibuster that codifies abortion rights.
Host Kristen Welker said, “Let’s talk about what’s happening in your state, Arizona, which is now the de facto hub of the national fight for abortion rights.” This week, the state The Legislature voted to repeal Arizona’s prohibition, which dates back to 1864. Do you think this repeal will minimize the sense of urgency some voters feel to get out and vote Democratic?”
“I think women in Arizona have been going through a really tough time, and it all goes back to the election of Donald Trump and what he said he wanted to do about it,” Kelly said. Roe v. Wade. Women in Arizona don’t have the rights they used to have. Currently, women cannot access the health care they need in this state. There is an opportunity to fix this problem at the state level with a ballot initiative in November. What we really need is a national law that codifies women’s right to make these decisions. That will only happen if Joe Biden is elected president. ”
Mr. Welker asked, “Do you support eliminating the filibuster in favor of codifying abortion rights?” Roe vs. Wade To the law?
Kelly said, “Yes.”
Welker said, “Will you?”
Kerry said, “Yes, I will.” When we were considering the voting rights bill, I also voted for it. I flew space shuttles for his 15 years at NASA. If NASA had the rules of the U.S. Senate, the rocket ship would never leave the launch pad. This is one of them, but at the appropriate time, we will consider changing the rules so that women can receive the medical care they need. ”
