I Talk to People Who’ve Seen ‘Marked Changes’ in Biden Recently, ‘Can’t Comment On’ if I’ve Seen It
Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), who earlier this week called on President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, said in an interview with CNN on Friday that he “cannot comment” on whether he has seen a decline in Biden’s cognitive abilities, acuity or communication skills, and said he has not met with the president extensively. “I have met with people who say they have seen a noticeable change in Biden over the last few months,” he said.
Doggett began by saying that he was asking Biden to drop out of the race not because he thought Biden was unfit to run, but because the risks of Trump’s reelection were too great and he didn’t understand why Biden was lagging behind Trump in the polls despite Biden’s better record compared to Trump’s.
Moderator Jim Sciutto then asked, “You’ve had many personal meetings with the president over the years. Have you personally observed a decline in his cognitive ability, his alertness or his ability to communicate?”
Doggett responded: “I can’t say I’ve met with him many times and I can’t comment on that, but I’ve met with people who say they’ve seen a noticeable change in the last few months.”
