On Wednesday's broadcast of CNN's “Inside Politics,” Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said he certainly thinks Democrats can come to an agreement with President-elect Donald Trump on Dreamers. He said they “deserve a chance to win.” citizenship. ”
host Dana Bash asked. [relevant exchange begins around 22:05] “Donald Trump said Sunday that he would work with Democrats to allow DREAMers to stay in the United States. You pursued this path with Trump during his first term, but it ultimately failed. Realistically, do you think you could come to an agreement with Trump on Dreamers? What would that look like?”
“I believe that, based on what he said last Sunday,” Durbin said. “I was sitting on the couch listening to the newspaper, half listening, half reading, and then… When he got into the Dreamers and I sat up straight, he said he was ready to talk to the Republicans. I wanted to see if there was a consensus among the Democrats. And I say to you, anytime, anywhere, call me, I'll be there as a child. The lives of hundreds of thousands of good people who came to this country and deserved a chance at citizenship are at risk.”
