A thrill-seeker has set a new world record for riding the most roller coasters within a week.
At 36, Dean Stokes aimed to ride every roller coaster in the UK over the summer, though his plans faced some challenges due to Storm Floris.
Despite the setbacks, he managed to ride 55 roller coasters in just seven days, claiming the Guinness world record.
His journey began at Brighton Palace Pier on August 2nd and concluded at Thorpe Park on August 17th.
All in all, he visited 32 theme parks and tackled a total of 108 roller coasters.
Stokes, who runs a technology and AI training company, expressed, “I’ve been on countless roller coasters in different countries, but not many here in the UK. This challenge was my way of exploring that.”
He noted that initially, people thought he was a bit crazy, but their encouragement fueled his enthusiasm. “It was just fantastic. I had a blast.”
Reflecting on how Storm Floris affected his schedule, he shared, “The storm certainly had its ups and downs, complicating logistics.”
Interestingly, his friend Simon accompanied him, but rather than join in for the rides, he was busy taste-testing snacks at the parks. Stokes joked that Simon aimed to set his own record by visiting numerous theme parks without hopping on a single coaster.
Throughout their 16-day adventure, they drove over 2,300 miles and explored some memorable spots. Among Stokes’ favorites were Adventure Island in Southend and Creeley Theme Park & Resort in Devon.
“It’s amazing how many awesome parks we have along the coast, especially those run by local families,” he remarked.
When it came to individual rides, Stokes was particularly fond of the iconic coasters at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and the Hyperia at Thorpe Park, which stands as the tallest and fastest in the UK, hitting speeds of 80 mph and climbing to 236 feet.
Stokes hopes his accomplishments motivate others to pursue their passions. “I didn’t visit theme parks as a kid. It wasn’t until my teenage years that I tried my first coaster, and I loved it. In the last five to ten years, I’ve really discovered this love for the adrenaline rush.”
He commented on the unique atmosphere of theme parks: “It’s just a fun vibe.” He hopes my journey inspires more people to do what they enjoy.
Surprisingly, he didn’t initially set out to break a record. However, after sharing his experiences online, Guinness World Records contacted him about the possibility of setting a new one.
Stokes was taken aback by the recognition. “I didn’t plan to achieve this, but they informed me that no one had attempted such a feat before.”
Now, he feels proud to have the record displayed in his office, although he believes it could be surpassed. “I really think it’s doable, so people should give it a go.”
“I’m ready to pass the baton.”
