Former President Donald Trump released a statement following the shooting that reportedly occurred at a rally in Pennsylvania, writing on Truth Social that he was “shot by a bullet above the top of my right ear.”
“I want to thank the United States Secret Service and all of law enforcement for their swift response to the shooting that occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania,” President Trump said in paying tribute to the man tragically killed at the rally.
“Most importantly, I want to express my condolences to the family of the individual who died at the rally and to the family of the other individual who was seriously injured,” Trump continued.
“I can’t believe something like this could happen in my country. We don’t know at this point who the perpetrator is. He is now deceased. I was shot with a bullet above my right ear and it went through it,” Trump said, explaining that he heard a “whoosh” before feeling the bullet penetrate his skin.
“I heard a whoosh and a gunshot and felt the bullets going through my skin so I knew right away something was wrong. I was bleeding profusely and realized what was going on,” he said, adding, “God bless America!”
Details are still being released, but the suspect was shot dead by the Secret Service. Shortly after, Trump was seen standing up, raising his fist at the crowd and bleeding from his face. He appeared to repeatedly tell the crowd to “fight!” as the crowd erupted in chants of “USA!”.
