Omar Responds to HSI Raid
Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar has publicly responded to the recent raid on her home by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), asserting that she refuses to be silenced.
In the early hours of Monday, HSI conducted a search at Omar’s residence, an initial report revealed to a news outlet. This action is reportedly part of an inquiry into her immigration paperwork, which is said to have been filled out by her late father when she was a child.
A spokesperson for the Department of Justice confirmed that HSI executed a search warrant as part of an ongoing federal investigation.
Omar, who was born in Somalia, took to social media to announce that she was fine and characterized the investigation as a misuse of law enforcement.
“I’m okay. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” she wrote. “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation,” she added, stating emphatically that she would not be silenced.
Democratic leaders in Congress issued a joint statement regarding the raid, expressing their concern and accusing President Trump’s administration of corruption.
“The Trump administration’s raid on Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home is deeply disturbing and raises serious questions about the continued corrupt weaponization of the federal government against Donald Trump’s adversaries,” their statement read.
The statement also condemned “far-right extremists,” claiming that both they and the president have been consistently targeting Omar with personal attacks and unfounded accusations.
“Now, less than 30 days before the midterm election, his violent mass deportation machine has descended upon the home of a duly elected Member of Congress and her family,” the leaders remarked.
They promised to hold the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security accountable for what they termed a rogue abuse of power.
Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz also spoke out, criticizing Trump for abusing his power and linking the raid to the impending midterm elections.
“Americans see this for what it is – President Trump is abusing his power to go after political opponents weeks before an election,” Walz stated on social media.
Last month, White House Border Czar Tom Homan indicated there is an ongoing criminal investigation into Omar, asserting that “no one’s above the law.”
Having arrived in the U.S. during the 1990s, Omar completed her naturalization process and became a U.S. citizen in 2000 at the age of 17.
