Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is dropping out of the presidential race and may support Donald Trump, according to ABC News.
The report cautioned that nothing has been finalized.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. plans to withdraw from the presidential race by the end of the week, a source familiar with the decision told ABC News.
According to an ABC News source, Kennedy plans to endorse Donald Trump, but when ABC News asked him directly if he would support former President Trump, Kennedy said he was “neither confirming nor denying that.”
…
Sources cautioned that the decision has not yet been finalized and could change, with one source adding that part of Kennedy’s hope is to get things finalized quickly to blunt momentum at the Democratic National Convention.
One possible scenario being discussed is for Kennedy to appear on stage with Trump at an event in Phoenix on Friday, but sources cautioned that Kennedy’s mind could change at any time and a source close to Trump said plans for Friday have not been finalized.
President Trump responded to the news in an interview on Fox & Friends.
Former President Donald Trump responded to rumors that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was planning to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, saying he would support him on Thursday.
Trump made the comments during an interview with Fox & Friends on Thursday morning.
“Mr. President, there was a big announcement yesterday. There are big rumors going around that RFK Jr. might be dropping out of the race and endorsing you. His spokesman said he’ll be doing a live broadcast tomorrow about his future plans. And now there’s rumors that he might be joining you at this rally in Arizona tomorrow and announcing his endorsement. What’s the truth?” Fox host Ainsley Earhardt asked.
“I’ve known him for a long time. You know, he’s kind of a quirky guy. Very smart, very good guy. I would be very honored if he endorsed me. Very honored. He’s really in the right frame of mind. A respected guy. Some of his policies are well liked by women, some people don’t like his policies,” Trump said. “But overall … they treated him very badly. I think he was going around saying he would have beaten Biden in the primary.”
