CLEVELAND — The Yankees' bullpen, which has been great throughout the postseason, suffered its first hit on Thursday when Ian Hamilton left Game 3 of the ALCS against the Guardians with a strained left calf.
It happened in the bottom of the 6th inning, when the Yankees were leading 2-1, with one out and second base.
Hamilton was throwing a warm-up pitch after the Yankees successfully challenged a first base call on Daniel Schneemann's grounder.
Hamilton's final warm-up pitch hit the backstop, and the right-hander appeared to twist his left ankle.
After a brief visit by trainers, he was removed from the match and replaced by Tim Meza.
Hamilton's appearance was his first since Oct. 7, when he had a great performance with four outs in Game 2 of the ALDS vs. the Royals.
For most of the playoffs, the Yankees had a great team, led by Luke Weaver, Clay Holmes, Tommy Kahnle, and most recently left-hander Tim Hill.
