Ex-Girlfriend Reacts to Ian Watkins’ Death in Prison

The former girlfriend who played a significant role in revealing Ian Watkins, the Lostprophets frontman, as a convicted pedophile expresses relief over his death in prison, noting she expected it to happen sooner.

Joan Mujazeliks shared her thoughts with the Daily Mail, mentioning that she had been anticipating a call like this for a while. Watkins, who was serving a 29-year sentence for multiple sexual offenses, faced a brutal end in a British prison where he was reportedly targeted by fellow inmates.

“From day one in prison, he walked around with a target on his back,” she noted, adding that the timing of his death was unexpected but not surprising. Mujazeliks has her own history of violence, having survived a throat slashing in prison due to her crimes.

She described a sense of relief following Watkins’ violent demise, stating, “After everything he did, I wanted him dead for a long time. I feel like a weight has been lifted from my head.”

Mujazeliks clarified that she doesn’t mourn her ex-boyfriend. In her view, the man she loved was merely a façade. “The man I fell in love with didn’t exist,” she remarked, explaining how he had deceived her and manipulated her understanding of him.

Watkins, at 48, was a successful musician before his arrest in 2012 for drug offenses. The subsequent police search of his residence uncovered a shocking collection of child pornography, corroborating what Mujazeliks had been reporting for years.

He was later convicted of child exploitation and related crimes, receiving a lengthy prison sentence after a judge described his actions as “shocking depravity.”

On the day of his death, Watkins was assaulted in a manner described by officials as “brutal” and “shocking even by prison standards.” He was attacked while exiting his cell, resulting in severe injuries that led to his bleeding out.

Authorities have arrested the individual responsible for the attack, along with another person involved. This incident is not isolated; in 2023, Watkins had previously been taken hostage and beaten over a drug debt.
