Another match, another controversial incident with Caitlin Clark at the center.
During Saturday’s matchup between the WNBA’s Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever, Clark got into a heated argument with Sky guard Chennedy Carter.
Late in the third quarter, Clark and Carter were going for a loose ball when Clark appeared to elbow Carter.
Clark also appeared to be saying something as he walked in the opposite direction from Carter.
Carter then fought back after taking a shot and body-checked Clark before the inbounds pass, which was upgraded to a egregious play on Sunday and resulted in a fine.
Carter declined to address the incident during his press conference after the Sky’s loss, but the 2020 Rookie of the Year runner-up took to Instagram to respond to the criticism.
“I grew up with only brothers,” she wrote. “We fought and argued a lot. I prefer hate to love. You don’t understand. I’d rather you hate me.” [than] She loves me and she loves my late aunt too.”
Carter’s acceptance sparked a social media debate about who was in the right.
Clarke’s fans and newcomers to the WNBA have been particularly critical of Carter on social media in the aftermath of the incident and following Carter’s refusal to answer questions about Clarke during her postgame press conference.
Carter also reposted a fan’s comment suggesting Clark fumbled on the play.
The Fever will face the Brooklyn Liberty on Sunday after beating the Sky 71-70 to improve to 2-8 on the season.
