Identity and cause of death disclosed for 70-year-old woman who passed away on the Revenge of the Mummy ride at Universal Orlando

Tragic Death on Universal Orlando’s Ride

A 70-year-old woman, Ma de la Luz Mejía Rosas, tragically passed away after riding the Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster at Universal Orlando. She was enjoying a day out with her children and grandchildren when the incident occurred, according to her family’s attorney.

On November 25, 2025, while enjoying the high-speed indoor attraction that can reach 45 miles per hour, Rosas became unresponsive and was taken to a nearby hospital. She sadly died two weeks later, on December 9, from a non-traumatic aneurysm rupture, as ruled by the Orange County coroner.

“Mrs. Rosas went to the park for a fun day with her family and was anticipating a safe time,” stated attorney Ben Crump. He emphasized that Rosas’s family is now grappling with their loss and searching for clarity about the events that led to her death. They seek detailed information on the ride’s operations, safety measures, and maintenance history.

The Revenge of the Mummy ride, inspired by the movie Hamunaptra, features immersive tomb-themed scenery, fire effects, and memorable visuals throughout its roughly three-minute course.

This unfortunate incident isn’t the first; since its opening in 2004, there have been 21 reported accidents on the ride, with various symptoms such as nausea and dizziness noted. Recently released details about Rosas’s death were limited, lacking specific information in a quarterly report from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

State officials monitor injuries and medical events at major theme parks in Florida, including Universal and others. Universal typically refrains from commenting on ongoing claims.

This incident follows closely behind another tragic event; Kevin Rodriguez-Zavala, a 32-year-old man, died on September 17, 2025, after becoming unresponsive on Universal’s Epic Universe roller coaster, Stardust Racers. His death was determined to be a blunt impact accident. Crump is also representing Zavala’s family in a lawsuit against the park.
