IDF’s Female Combat Soldiers Deploy in Lebanon for First Time

Female soldiers from the Israel Defense Forces' (IDF) combat intelligence unit have been deployed to southern Lebanon for the first time in the country's history, according to media reports.

of jerusalem post office reported:

For the first time in Israeli military history, female combat soldiers entered Lebanon as part of an operational mission. Northern Command Commander Major General Oli Godin several weeks ago authorized the deployment of a team from the Combat Intelligence Battalion to southern Lebanon.

Since the start of the war, combat intelligence teams made up of female soldiers have been stationed near the Syrian border and in the Dob Mountain region. Their missions included gathering intelligence, identifying terrorist operatives, creating target lists, and directing ground and air fires to neutralize threats and dismantle terrorist infrastructure.

The soldiers said the mission revealed valuable information about anti-tank missile bases, buildings used by Hezbollah, and precise target locations. “In one case, we guided a tank fire based on photographs. The images we captured were directly incriminating Hezbollah and showed their weapons inside homes and villages. , attack helicopters attacked those targets,” Corporal Shani said.

The troops were in Lebanon for only about 12 hours. post he pointed out.

In Israel, the issue of female soldiers in combat has become a thorny issue. Female soldiers have participated in most other aspects of the war against Hamas and Hezbollah, including the female pilots who carried out Israel's response to last month's Iranian ballistic missile attack. On October 7, 2023, a group of female tank commanders killed dozens of Hamas terrorists while defending Israel.

However, several female soldiers were killed and captured at a Hamas observation post near Gaza, where they remain hostages.
