During an appearance on FNC's “Fox & Friends” on Monday, Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) told House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) that he must meet his constitutional obligations if he wants to stay in office. He warned them to do everything in their power to fulfill their mission.
The Indiana Republican called for a public statement of his commitment.
“Well, actually, I want to hear what happens and what happens to other people if Speaker Johnson is unable to govern and is not actually going to fulfill his constitutional duties,” Spartz said. said. “I'm not asking him to do anything more than the Constitution requires. The Titanic will hit an iceberg and our country will be in financial disaster.”
She continued, “And this is Congress' fault. This is our constitutional obligation. If he doesn't want to do it, he doesn't deserve to be a speaker. We can't do it.” Any American can be a speaker. I'm willing to listen to other people's opinions. But Speaker Johnson – again. But – you know, if he wants to be Speaker of the House, he needs to commit publicly to how he's going to fulfill his constitutional duties. I'm not asking for more than what we need to do and what kind of structure we need to put in place to get us out of this mess.”
