Bob Iger Addresses Kimmel Suspension, Denies Trump Pressure

Former Disney executive Bob Iger has clarified that his decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel last September was not influenced by President Donald Trump, but rather due to Kimmel’s “bad taste.”

Iger faced scrutiny over his handling of the situation following Kimmel’s comments related to the shooting of right-wing figure Charlie Kirk. He stated that many are misreading the motives behind the suspension as politically driven.

“That never happened,” Iger asserted. “We thought it was in bad taste… We just wanted him to recognize that it was an ill-timed and perhaps inappropriate comment.”

Kirk was shot on September 12 last year, with the alleged perpetrator identified as a gay left-winger, complicating factors surrounding the incident.

Kimmel reacted strongly, claiming that the MAGA supporters were attempting to downplay the identity of the suspect, seeking political gain from the tragedy. He criticized the portrayal of the shooter, despite the clarity of the situation.

This, according to some, reflected a misleading narrative pushed by Kimmel intended to frame the accused in a particular light.

Kimmel was suspended shortly after his comments and returned to the air after a brief hiatus. He has since claimed that his statements were taken out of context, but many believe he was not entirely truthful regarding the incident.

Iger’s assertion that Kimmel’s suspension stemmed from concerns over taste rather than external pressure seems credible. If Trump had genuinely influenced Disney, Kimmel likely wouldn’t have resumed his show or seen his contract extended.

Disney currently allocates significant airtime to anti-Trump figures like Kimmel and the hosts of The View. There’s a notable absence of programs that present opposing viewpoints on the network, raising questions about impartiality.

The narrative that Trump pressured Disney regarding Kimmel may persist, as it serves Kimmel’s aim to be seen as a political martyr and not just a declining ratings figure. This story also benefits the left, creating pressure on Disney to avoid changes that could be misinterpreted as aligning with Trump.
