Similarities to 1994 continue to emerge for the Rangers, with Igor Shesterkin at the center of a new game Thursday.
With 45 saves in the Game 3 win over the Hurricanes, Shesterkin tied Mike Richter for the longest streak in club history in the playoffs with seven straight wins.
Richters also played in the first seven games of the postseason, as the Rangers swept the Islanders and outscored the Capitals 3-0 in the second round, ultimately winning the series in five games.
It was also the second straight game in which Shesterkin saved 45 or more shots, as he stopped 54 in the double-overtime win in Game 2.
The Russian also has the best save percentage in club playoff history at .929, surpassing Henrik Lundqvist (.921).
The 2022 Vezina Trophy winners put the Hurricanes up against the wall in this series. Carolina has generally had more chances at five-on-five, as they have struggled to get the puck from Shesterkin.

Late in Game 3, Andrei Svechnikov tied the score at 6-5 and it looked like momentum was finally gaining momentum, but less than two minutes into overtime, Artemi Panarin sealed the Rangers’ victory at 3-2. I got it.
Another victory on Shesterkin’s shoulders.
A new step in history.
