Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has addressed recent claims suggesting that her name is actually “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi.” She firmly stated that her last name has always been “Omar.”
In a post on X, Omar reacted to a message shared by the Rapid Response 47 account, which highlighted a post from President Donald Trump on Truth Social. Trump claimed that Omar’s real name is “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi.”
Omar characterized the Republican Party as a “pedophile protection” party, asserting that they are using the most corrupt Department of Justice (DOJ) to promote right-wing conspiracy theories.
“The pedophile protection party’s president is laundering right-wing conspiracy theories through the most corrupt DOJ in American history,” Omar stated. “Whenever there’s bad news, this creep reaches for one name: mine. So let me be very clear—my name has always been Ilhan Omar.”
She further suggested, “Perhaps you should focus on what your VP’s real name is.”
In a Truth Social post from Thursday, Trump stated, “It was just revealed that Ilhan Omar’s name is not Ilhan Omar, the name she used to get elected and sworn into Congress, but rather an entirely different name, Ilhan Nur Said Elmi. Her last name is, surprisingly, the same as her brother’s, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the person they claimed she married and had children with. When asked if she married her brother, she replied, ‘Not to my knowledge.’ So, she somehow didn’t know?”
According to John Binder from Breitbart News, a filing from the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia refers to the congresswoman as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi.”
“Before the Court are three Applications to unseal ex parte materials and proceedings related to a federal search warrant for the personal residence in the District of Columbia of Congresswoman Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar,” states the filing, signed by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro.
This reference to Omar as “Nur Said Elmi” brings back allegations that have circulated for nearly ten years about her ex-husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, being her brother. These allegations, which have not been substantiated, imply that Omar married Said Elmi to aid his immigration status in the U.S.
During an interview on MS NOW’s All In, when host Chris Hayes asked if Omar was related at all to her former husband and whether there is any truth to the claims, she replied, “Not to my knowledge.”
