Ilhan Omar Responds to DHS Raid at Her Home
Representative Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, has spoken out following reports that the Department of Homeland Security conducted a pre-dawn raid on her residence. She has suggested that this action represents an effort by the Trump administration to “target political enemies.”
In a statement shared on X, she reassured her supporters, saying, “I’m ok.” However, she went on to assert that this raid is part of a broader scheme to intimidate her politically. “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation,” she stated, adding defiantly, “I will not be silenced.”
Reports indicate that this raid is linked to an ongoing criminal investigation concerning Omar’s immigration documentation, which was reportedly filled out by her late father during her childhood. A spokesperson from the Department of Justice confirmed the raid, noting that it was executed as part of a judicially authorized search in the Washington, D.C., area. The spokesperson reiterated that this investigation is still active.
Omar’s immigration status has long been controversial, particularly due to allegations that she may have entered the U.S. by marrying her brother.
Former President Trump previously commented on this situation during a flight on Air Force One, stating, “Somalia, where you have a Congressman goes around telling everybody about our Constitution, yet she supposedly came into our country by marrying her brother.” He added, “Well, if that’s true, she shouldn’t be a Congressman, and we should throw her the hell out of our country.”
In the meantime, many Democrats are rallying around Omar, with House Democratic leadership calling the raid “deeply disturbing.” They criticize what they describe as “corrupt weaponization of the federal government against Donald Trump’s adversaries.” This sentiment is particularly ironic to some observers, considering the left’s previous silence on the Biden administration’s actions targeting political opponents, which have included alleged misuse of intelligence against American citizens, as outlined by the Director’s Initiatives Group task force.
