Ilhan Omar investigation expands internationally with requests for details on her husband's business activities in Kenya, Dubai, and Somalia.

Investigation into Tim Mynett’s Business Ventures Expands

The inquiry into Tim Mynett, Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minn.) husband, and his questionable business activities might have broader international implications.

Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), head of the House Oversight Committee, is requesting that the House Ethics Committee look into Mynett’s failed business practices, not just in the U.S., but also in Somalia, Kenya, and the United Arab Emirates.

Mynett’s investment company, Rose Lake Capital, is reportedly seeking to set up solar panel projects in Africa. Interestingly, one of his main business partners was flown to Dubai on a $10,699 ticket after discussions concerning a deal there, as reported by the Post.

Comer is demanding that Mynett provide comprehensive information about Rose Lake Capital’s activities in Nigeria, Somalia, and the UAE. It’s noteworthy that these international business dealings are part of a larger pattern of clandestine ventures that have led to revelations about Omar’s wealth. Her financial situation, which reportedly soared from minimal assets to as much as $30 million, is highlighted in federal filings. According to her 2024 disclosure, Rose Lake Capital is valued between $5 million and $25 million.

The Omar family’s financial surge coincided with the discovery of a significant welfare scandal in Somalia, and, as noted by the Post, sensitive information has been removed from Rose Lake’s website.

Comer’s committee initiated the inquiry with a letter sent to Mynett on February 5, which sought “all documents and communications” related to any travel concerning business in the UAE, Somalia, and Kenya by any individuals connected to Rose Lake Capital or the defunct California winery eStCru LLC. This includes information about travel dates, participants, and the purpose of each trip.

“She needs to explain how her net worth grew from zero to $10 million in just one year,” Comer stated on NewsNation’s “Katie Pavlich Tonight.” He also emphasized the need for clarification regarding the timing of her wealth increase during a Justice Department investigation into her husband’s finances.

Mynett has been given until February 19 to respond to the request; however, he has not yet done so and did not respond to inquiries from the Post.

Comer also suggested that Rep. Michael Guest, chairman of the House Ethics Committee, take over the investigation, although members of his own committee countered that they were better suited for the task.

Chairman Garbarino of the Ethics Committee noted that it was indeed the right body to handle matters involving members of Congress.

Meanwhile, Omar’s press secretary, Jackie Rogers, dismissed Comer’s request as a “political stunt,” framing it as part of a “smear campaign.”
