Representative Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, shared her thoughts on MS NOW Wednesday night, suggesting that the recent raid on her home was intended to “intimidate and scare people” from voting in the upcoming midterm elections.
Last Monday, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted a raid at Omar’s Washington, D.C. residence as part of an inquiry into possible immigration fraud. The investigation is looking into whether either Omar or her father provided false information on documents that aided her citizenship. Tom Homan, the border czar, has indicated that if the claims are validated, it’s possible Omar could lose her citizenship.
Omar, who has remained largely out of the public eye since the raid, offered her first comments about it during an interview on “All In with Chris Hayes.” In her remarks, she implied that this investigation might be a desperate attempt by President Trump to resonate with right-wing audiences.

“I think they were starting to lose faith that these were just empty promises, and they had to do something… to indicate that they’re actually taking action,” Omar stated. “Whether it’s through Metro Surge or the voter roll reviews, they want people to see they’re doing something to maintain their credibility.”
She continued, “They made this big claim about a significant number of undocumented people voting and something needing to be addressed.”
Omar added, “They’re trying to stir up this frenzy, and in the end, I believe their goal is to intimidate and discourage people from participating in elections.”

Despite the raid, Omar insists it might have the opposite effect and actually motivate more people to vote. “Earlier today, we received calls about an overwhelming turnout at early voting locations. Our staff is saying they are struggling to accommodate the number of requests for transport to voting sites. I think this is backfiring on them,” she mentioned.
Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for a response but did not receive an immediate reply.

Before a campaign video aired on Tuesday night, Omar had not appeared publicly since the raid, which was initially reported by Fox News Digital. Her husband, Tim Mynett, has been seen walking their dog near their home, while a campaign aide has been spotted delivering food, alongside her daughters arriving days apart.
During a warning from the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump claimed Omar could face jail time if the allegations are substantiated. “Well, she could be. She could also go to jail,” he stated. “They keep talking about deportation. No, she could go to jail.”
He went on to express his personal views, labeling Omar “a very dishonest person” who “hates our country.”
