Ilhan Omar’s Financial Turmoil

Amid ongoing controversy, Rep. Ilhan Omar and her husband have downsized from their penthouse to a more modest workhouse.

Once, her husband Tim Mynett valued his venture capital and wine business at up to $30 million, but now he claims to earn merely $200 a year.

Recent financial disclosures reveal that Mynett had no income from his main job at Rose Lake Capital last year. According to the 2025 data, Omar noted that the couple’s assets ranged between $20,000 and $125,000, with credit card and student loan debts totaling $30,000 to $100,000, leading to a net worth estimated between negative $80,000 and $95,000.

The couple faced intense public scrutiny in 2024 after reporting an unexpected surge in assets, going from nearly nothing to between $5 million and $30 million. This raised flags and led to congressional investigations into Omar’s finances, coinciding with a welfare fraud case involving the Somali community in her district.

In March, Omar filed an amended 2024 financial report, claiming the value of Mynett’s stake in his businesses was zero, attributing the “discrepancies” to accounting errors.

Despite the reported lack of value in these businesses, Rose Lake Capital still generated significant income—between $100,000 and $1 million—while the wine venture reportedly brought in $2,500 to $5,000, according to the updated disclosure.

Republican National Committee spokeswoman Delaney Bomer remarked, “Voters are seeing through Ilhan Omar’s corrupt lies. Ms. Omar has spent her entire career covering up Democratic-led fraud that cost taxpayers billions, so it’s no wonder she would do the same regarding her husband.”

Mynett founded Rose Lake Capital in 2022 alongside his business partner Will Hayler, both of whom previously worked for Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison during his congressional campaign in 2012. Ellison faced allegations of accepting bribes, but he maintains his innocence, asserting good faith in his actions directed by Hayler, who gave up his House seat to facilitate Omar’s run in 2018.

As of now, Omar’s office has not responded to requests for comment.
