DOJ Subpoenas Family Members of Rep. Omar in Federal Investigation

Representative Ilhan Omar from Minnesota is currently under intense legal scrutiny as federal investigations look into her immigration history, financial disclosures, and a recent raid on her home. According to Fox News, the Department of Justice has issued subpoenas to family members of Omar, while a former federal prosecutor discussed the potential legal and political implications of the ongoing inquiries.

On Monday, federal agents seized a cellphone from Omar’s Washington, D.C. home during a raid related to a criminal fraud investigation focusing on her immigration documents. This investigation has prompted a deeper examination into Omar’s immigration background, particularly as multiple subpoenas have been sent to her family members since the raid.

Authorities are exploring claims that Omar’s family may have misrepresented her age when she moved to the U.S. in 1995. Omar became a naturalized citizen in 2000, and the probe is particularly interested in any discrepancies between the age stated on her application and her actual birth date.

At the time of her citizenship acquisition, Omar was reported to be 17 years old, which allowed her to automatically gain citizenship through her father’s naturalization. The questions regarding her age have resurfaced following an incident where her congressional staff requested a change in her birth year from 1981 to 1982 at a Minnesota public library shortly after she took office.

Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett, expressed his confidence about the investigation, stating, “My wife came here when she was 12 years old as a child war refugee. No concerns.”

There’s also a focus on paperwork submitted by Omar’s late father regarding his U.S. entry application, as investigators assess whether there were any false statements made within those documents.

Omar has denied any allegations of wrongdoing, claiming that the Trump administration has been unfairly targeting her through federal law enforcement. Her office issued a statement saying, “For a decade, Donald Trump has relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with inflammatory rhetoric, repeatedly putting a target on her back. Now, those attacks have escalated to a pointless federal raid, and the Congresswoman has done nothing wrong.” They insisted that federal power should not be used to intimidate political opponents.

In addition to the immigration investigation, there is another inquiry examining Omar’s financial disclosures. Officials clarified that this financial review is separate from the recent raid on her home.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Omar’s office for further comment.
