Brian Cox’s Latest Darts: A Critique of Hollywood and Trump

Actor Brian Cox is making headlines again, this time launching scathing critiques at various actors, production companies, and notably, former President Trump during a recent interview.

Cox has increasingly shown a harsh attitude towards his peers. Recently, he’s elevated his critiques, notably remarking about co-star Jeremy Strong’s acting in a way that many found surprising, describing it as “fucking annoying.” This isn’t the first time he has stirred controversy with his remarks.

In the latest coverage, Cox took aim at Gary Oldman’s performance in Darkest Hour, calling it “nonsense” and likening it to a mere “hodgepodge of crowd-pleasers” rather than a substantive performance. His critiques didn’t stop there; he labeled Johnny Depp as “so pretentious and so overrated” after revealing he had turned down a role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, specifically to avoid working with Depp.

He continued his tirade against Ian McKellen, expressing that McKellen’s Lord of the Rings role “wasn’t my cup of tea.” Further down the list were his takes on Edward Norton, whom he called “A Pain in the Ass,” and Kevin Spacey, referring to him as a “Stupid, Stupid Man.” Cox even mentioned Margot Robbie as “too beautiful” for the lead in Wuthering Heights, and criticized Quentin Tarantino for not giving actors enough room to express themselves in his films.

Turning to politics, Cox expressed strong negative sentiments regarding Donald Trump, stating, “Trump doesn’t care about the people. All he cares about is oil in Iran.” He accused Trump of being purely motivated by greed and dismissed any notion of him being a liberator.

When questioned about the potential repercussions of his persistent criticism on his career, Cox’s response was rather candid. He indicated uncertainty, reflecting on his wife’s warnings to be cautious. However, with a bit of resilience and defiance, he remarked, “I’m turning 80 this year. Screw it! I’ll say what I want.”

Over the past few years, Cox has taken aim at various aspects of Hollywood, including a previous disparagement of the Academy Awards, which he described as “complete nonsense.” He highlighted that the Oscars focus solely on films released during a narrow window around the holidays, suggesting that many deserving films outside that period go unrecognized.

Additionally, he made sweeping remarks about American voters, attributing blame for Trump’s rise, and openly critiqued the Bible, branding it as “one of the worst books of all time.” He argued against the concept of a caring God, prompting deeper reflections on human failures and the need for self-examination.
