‘I’ll Write Somebody In’: Republican Utah Governor Spencer Cox Says He Will Not Vote For Trump

Utah’s Republican governor, Spencer Cox, told CNN on Wednesday that he has no plans to vote for Donald Trump for president.

Governor Cox told the outlet that he plans to endorse another candidate for president and that he has not voted for a Republican National Convention front-runner since 2012. A portion of the interview in which the Utah governor revealed his voting intentions was tweeted by an anti-Trump group. “As I have said before, I have not voted for a top candidate since 2012. Of course, I had concerns, one of which was what happened on January 6. I am hopeful. I want my party to win,” he said.

“The candidate they picked this time was not my first choice, nor was my choice last time, but the will of the party has been expressed and this is the person they picked. So I said I will not be voting for either presidential candidate this year. I will write somebody in as my candidate, as I have done in the past,” said Governor Cox.

The governor said he still “want Donald Trump to succeed,” adding that he wants a Republican victory in 2024.

Cox expressed concern about Trump in the interview, saying the January 6 riot confirmed his “concerns” about the candidate. Utah is considered a Republican-leaning state. Trump won 45.5% of the state’s vote in 2016 to Hillary Clinton’s 27.5%. according to Trump also won the state in 2020 with 58.2% of the vote, Politico reported. report.
